Abstract: The Council of Assiniboia was the governing body in the Red River settlement from 1835 until the government of Canada assumed jurisdiction over Rupert's Land in 1870. In Parts I & II, Mr Dorge wrote of the naming of the first Métis and Canadien councillors. In this final part of the series, commissioned for Winnipeg's Centennial year Mr Dorge describes the declining participation of the French-speaking members up to the events of the winter of 1869-70.
